Mobility product online retailer designed2enable is a game changer in the mobility sector. The company was born from a wish to
provide stigma-free mobility products that not only functioned well, but could bring joy and pleasure to their users.
Owners Katherine and John Pyne have experience of living with disability, and found shopping for mobility products an eternally depressing experience. Their business started with an idea for a stylish wheelchair glove, which they now manufacture under their own brand, and has since grown into a successful online retail store and mobility community.
After much hard work, designed2enable is now the exclusive UK sales agent for the award winning Sabi Health and Wellness products. It has expanded its range to include products that enhance the lives of the elderly,
selling to retail buyers through its online store, and direct to trade and business, working with care homes, building contractors, occupational therapists, mobility retailers and pharmacies.
“We wanted to create something different,” says Katherine, “and to offer a wider choice of nice-to-use products for those needing a little extra help in life, whether it be through natural causes, ageing or disability.”
The designed2enable ethos is to enable equality through design. A great deal of our time is spent on product research and building relationships with suppliers, constantly underlining the need for manufacturers to rethink their approach to mobility aid design.
“With our aging population it is obvious that more and more people will have the need for these products,” says John. “The ‘baby-boomer’ demographic are better off and much more design driven – as they get older the market will expand considerably. We’re
seeing the tide turn already, which is good news for our customers. ”
