Arriving at the New Mayfair hotel, where they stay quite regularly, sisters Christine and Elizabeth were given a warm, friendly greeting at reception. After checking in and being helped up to their room with their luggage, they were guided through the itinerary for the week by a member of staff.
As the sisters both have a Learning Disability, this assistance was very helpful to them, especially when choosing the trips they were going on through the week. The sisters decided to go to Blackpool Zoo and Southport. There were many different and varied trips on offer from a day trip to Windermere in the Lake District, Blackpool shopping, Blackpool Sealife Centre and Bury Market.
The sisters met with their carers that evening as a lot of the care is provided by staff who work within the hotel on a daily basis. This is ideal as it means guests can have the same carers for the duration of their holiday and they can get to know them and feel more comfortable.
The trip to Southport was on a lovely sunny day and the journey was scenic through the countryside. The guest thoroughly enjoyed the variety of shops and the street market, they shopped until they dropped! They were picked back up by their friendly driver for the journey back to the hotel with plenty of time to relax with a coffee and cake in the comfortable lounge before their evening meal and cabaret.
Blackpool Zoo is always a favourite trip for the hotel guests. They loved all the exhibits, especially the interactive ones like the lemurs and squirrel monkeys. The Safehands carers are always knowledgeable on the best routes to take in order to get the best vantage points during the talks and feeding times. Again these were very much enjoyed by both Christine and Elizabeth.
Day trips with Safehands Holidays and with the assistance of their carers are the highlight of many of the guests holidays. It provides them with that little bit of assistance and reassurance to enable them to do what they enjoy whilst on their holiday.
