The growing crisis of nursing staff shortages has forced Reuben Manor Care Home in Yarm, part of the Silk Healthcare Group, to make the difficult decision to close its nursing suite.

It is with enormous regret that we have concluded that we can no longer continue to provide nursing care at Reuben Manor.  Reuben Manor opened in 2009 and has encountered continual challenges in the ongoing recruitment of nursing staff.  The shortage of nurses has meant providing nursing care is unsustainable, and this is not only affecting us but is a key challenge facing the healthcare sector.

This decision has been reached after careful consideration to whether we could continue to meet the ongoing needs of older people, who need nursing care. Staffing remains the most important factor in the delivery of our high quality care at Silk Healthcare, and we are not prepared to compromise on the level of dedicated care we give.

We will continue to deliver high quality care to those currently residing with us, and our priority is to support the residents, their100065432208339-2 families and our staff through this difficult time.

We are fully committed to continuing with providing short breaks and long term care of the highest standards to the residential and dementia clients at Reuben Manor and this is at the core of all we do.

Angela Swift, Managing Director said “Silk Healthcare is proud that Reuben Manor Care Home was awarded ‘Outstanding’ for its care by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) at our last inspection, and remains dedicated and committed to serving the local community’s care needs. It is therefore with great sadness that we have no alternative but to close the nursing suite at Reuben Manor. This will be a distressing time for everyone, including my ‘team of angels’ who are devoted and loyal staff on the nursing suite, most of whom have been with us since we opened in 2009″.
