Skills for Health, the UK’s Sector Skills Council for Health and not-for-profit organisation, are pleased to announce the release of their updated Immunisation and Vaccination Elearning course, developed working with experts from Public Health England and Public Health Wales.
The update comes following recent changes in legislation, including new vaccine types and UK immunisation schedules, and amended policies. Other updates include:
- Updates from the Green book
- New research and evidence into immunisations
- Adaptations in line with adapted Welsh policies
- New vaccine policies
- Accommodating new working practices
- Amendments to align with new legal advice
The immunisation and vaccination elearning course meets the mandatory requirements of the National Minimum Standards for Immunisation Training and is the equivalent to the two-day immunisation course for new immunisers.
The course is aimed at all healthcare staff involved in immunisations and vaccinations. Learners will examine, the guidelines of how to administer vaccines covered under the UK vaccination schedule. They will learn how to recognise and comply with best practices in vaccination management; and in legal aspects; as well as providing accurate and up-to-date information about diseases and vaccines to service users and carers.
Laura Craig, Lead Immunisation Nurse Specialist at Public Health England says: With several key changes and additions to the immunisation programme in recent years, it is really important that all those involved in immunisation are able to access up to date training. The Skills for Health immunisation e-learning programme has been revised to incorporate these recent changes and provides a valuable, comprehensive method of training both for those new to immunisation and for immunisers wishing to revise and update their knowledge.
Bryan Kessie, Head of Technical at Skills for Health says “Skills for Health understands the importance of staff training in this key area and we aim to maintain the highest educational standards and accuracy in our courses. We are pleased to have worked with a range of subject matter experts in updating this programme and believe it offers a comprehensive on-line training package that will make a significant contribution to staff training and patient safety.”.
In recent years, elearning has become increasingly popular throughout the healthcare sector. The use of elearning has proven to be a cost-effective and flexible training solution which can easily be fitted around people’s work schedules. It is an easy way for managers to check progress for staff and ensure compliance for mandatory skills.
