Providing easy living solutions and located in the characterful village of Ewell, Surrey, Nonsuch Abbeyfield is a retirement village with a difference visible from the moment you walk in the door. Consisting of 60 independent living apartments with plenty of varied communal amenity spaces, residents and guests enter a two-story reception area with floor-to-ceiling displays and contemporary, homely furnishings, all interior designed by Park Grove Design Ltd. The visual interest is enhanced by an innovative patchwork floor covering called ‘Rewoven‘ by Ege Carpets. This floor coverings is duplicated in a second colourway in the table games area in the balcony above. On the balcony, tables with built-in chess and draughts boards have comfy armchairs and sit alongside a bespoke room divider with storage for additional games. This area looks over reception, where a giant olive tree by Bright Green is a dramatic feature, and out onto the landscaped grounds. Cosy furniture within the reception area creates a relaxing place to read or await guests or other residents before going into dinner in the adjoining Bradbury Restaurant.
Options, Options Everywhere
In addition to external offerings like a community garden, boules area and raised beds for gardeners, there is parking with electric charging points. It also features a bespoke servery designed by Park Grove with counterspace and a drinks fridge for film snacks and for other events requiring catering. The adaptable stacking chairs are truly comfortable and supplied by HCI. Relating to comfort, several residents have purchased duplicates of the lounge chairs for their own flats. These are by the Contract Furniture Group and upholstered by Park Grove in a velvet by Warwick fabrics.
The restaurant has a bar and several types of seating from banquettes, to lounge style chairs and dining chairs in a practical Aqua fabric with a multi-coloured stripe on the chair backs by Zimmer + Rohde.
