Independent Living Services praised in latest CQC inspection report

0

An Independent Living Service has been rated ‘Good’ in its most recent Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection, with an ‘Outstanding’ for its caring service.

Managed by Wokingham based care provider Optalis, the service provides care and support to 13 individuals with learning disabilities and autism with inspectors who visited the service noting how people were treated with respect and valued as individuals.

The CQC acknowledged that it is a very caring service, and therefore rated the caring section (key line of enquiry) of the report as outstanding.

In the report, the CQC said: “People were treated with exceptional care and kindness.

“Staff demonstrated a strong empathy for people at the service and were skilled in identifying and supporting people at times of emotional distress.”

One relative told the inspector: “Optalis offer a wonderful service. The support staff are caring, considerate and most importantly kind and sympathetic.”

The report added that people received care and support that was personalised to meet their individual needs and staff continually looked for ways to improve and enhance people’s lives by exploring new activities and employment that people could participate in.

One customer added: “The staff do a very good job. They are always there for me and help me to manage my condition. They encourage me to live more independently and give me strategies on how to cope.”

Clive Tyndale, Independent Living Services Manager praised the service’s staff as being instrumental to the positive rating. He said: “We’re delighted with our inspection report. A first Outstanding for the team! All of the staff work hard as a team to provide the best possible care for our customers, so we are really pleased to see it’s been reflected in a positive way.

“Whilst we are happy with the rating, we aren’t complacent and understand that we need to maintain standards and improve the quality of our service where possible, so our next challenge is to build on this.”

Five Optalis’ services that were inspected by CQC teams over the last six months have been rated as ‘Good’, and three of them have improved from ‘Requiring Improvement’, successfully delivering part of Optalis’ strategy to improve the quality of care and support provided across the organisation.

Optalis now has 90% ‘Good’ ratings in all of its CQC reports, with its first Outstanding in the area of Caring.

The CQC is the independent regulator of health and adult social care in England. They ensure health and social care services provide people with safe, effective, compassionate, high-quality care and encourage care services to improve.
