B&M Care Homes has once again chosen high performance Scala carpet from Lano Flooring Solutions with the installation of some 3000m2 through the public areas, corridors and bedrooms of Ryeview Manor. Having demonstrated impressive performance and reliability over the years in other B&M Care Homes, Scala carpet was the natural choice to meet the flooring requirements of its newest and largest purpose built care home to date.
Specialising in the care of the elderly and people living with a dementia, Ryeview Manor combines the highest levels of service provision and care for its residents in supremely elegant surroundings. Aspiring to feel just like a home from home, the interior design brief focussed on creating a comfortable and safe environment with a sumptuous look more akin to that of an upmarket hotel than the average ‘care home’.
Angela Hunt, designer at Ryeview Manor explains why the visual properties of carpet are so important for their residents: “For people that live with a dementia, flooring in dark shades such as blue and grey can appear like a dark hole, and complex or busy patterns can be confusing, so both should be avoided. However, red is known to be a stimulating colour and the small pin dot pattern of Scala suits perfectly as it discreetly melds into the background without becoming overbearing. Coupled with the light walls and ceilings, the carpet compliments the spacious feel of the building. The finished effect is absolutely stunning.”
“We were looking for carpet that could withstand high footfall”
Besides imparting a bright and attractive appearance in a deep red colourway, the practical properties of Scala carpet ensure that easy maintenance is enough to sustain its good looks at Ryeview on a daily basis. With the durability to withstand intensive use in public areas and constructed with an impervious backing and polypropylene solution dyed fibres, the carpet is highly resistant to all moisture from spills and liquids. Being able to withstand intensive cleaning without losing colour, even with harsh chemical treatment, makes Scala ideal for use in a healthcare setting.
As Angela explains, “We were looking for carpet that could withstand high footfall as well as pressure from furniture legs and we have been delighted with Scala in the past. Its close pile reduces the risk of slips and trips and also facilitates the regular task of moving furniture for staff.”
